Welcome to My New Dallas Cowboys Blog

I would like to welcome all of my new readers and hopefully followers to this new blog which will contain daily updates on the Dallas Cowboys. I want to begin by providing my readers with a sample of my background. My name is Patrick Balthrop, and I am a journalism major who is currently attending San Diego Mesa Community College in hopes to transfer and obtain my bachelors degree from a four-year university. During my time attending college, I have written for the on-campus school newspaper multiple semesters, as well as taken many journalism courses in order to broaden my overall knowledge and experience in this field. While pursuing my goal of ultimately becoming a sports journalist, I asked myself, “What could I be doing outside of the classroom to potentially help me in my endeavors to become a journalist?” I have heard on many occasions that if you want to be successful, stick to what you know and make it your passion. When I thought about what I already had extensive prior knowledge about, I couldn’t help but to think about the team that I already owned a great amount of passion for. I am more emotionally invested in the Dallas Cowboys than any other team in any other sport. Now before going any further, I must confess that I was born and raised in San Diego, California, which may lead many to speculate that I am a “bandwagon” fan who is only interested in the team now that we are having a successful season. However, my story of becoming a cowboys fan is similar to that of our very own Dak Prescott. My father has always been a die hard Cowboys fan. So, as you could probably imagine, when he had a son, he made sure I followed suite. I was grown up loving this team and that is a feeling that has never gone away. As I mentioned above, I am only 23 years old, which means I did not have the luxury of truly enjoying the great Cowboys teams of the 70’s and 90’s. With that said, I am very knowledgeable about the factors in our history that have led to our team being deemed, “Americas Team.” I am fully aware of the days of Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett as well as the amazing trio of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin. The 2016-2017 version of the Dallas Cowboys, sitting at a 12-2 record, are beginning to look eerily similar to those great teams in the 90’s led by a great offense that is ignited by its beefy and talented offensive line. I truly hope I did not just jynx our Cowboys, but the eye test doesn’t usually lie, and if this years team can come anywhere close to the production of that past team… this should be a fun end of the year run. I hope that after this first visit to my site that I have captured a new follower to join me during this epic season.

Thank you
